Reimagining a 19th century farmstead

We were appointed by the National Trust to carry out a study for the adaptation of a group of redundant farm buildings at 47 Mose on the Dudmaston Estate in South Shropshire.

47 Mose is a part of a nineteenth-century farmstead that makes a significant contribution to the surviving built heritage of Mose hamlet, including Little Mose and Mose House.

The proposal aims to redevelop the barns with a view to ensuring their protection and viability for future generations to enjoy this historic building group.

The proposal converts the existing  collection of barns into a three bedroom property that utilises the stable/granary, root house and western end of the sheltered shed – whilst the eastern end remains as an open loggia, recollecting the form of the original building.

The proposal is a light touch approach where the existing barn grouping and historic fabric are retained, maintained and reused where applicable.
